Photographic portrait of Sara Katherine Layton Archer. Dr. Archer became a member of Vanderbilt's faculty in 1969. In 1971 Dr. Archer was chosen as one of the outstanding educators. In 1972 she was chosen to become the new dean of the Vanderbilt School of Nursing and at the same time became the director of nursing at Vanderbilt University Hospital. In 1978 Dr. Archer was named a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She resigned from her position as Dean in 1982.
