A learning management system (LMS) provides an integrated set of tools to support teaching and learning.
The primary LMS at Vanderbilt University is OAK (Online Access to Knowledge). OAK, powered by Blackboard, is a set of technology-related tools designed to enhance students’ academic experience. Instructors use OAK to display a course syllabus or schedule, provide more detail about assignments, link to additional resources, and make additional materials available through electronic reserves or podcasts. Students may be asked to use OAK to take tests, submit assignments electronically, or participate in online discussions.
The Jean and Alexander Heard Library is steward of OAK. Cindy Franco, the OAK Manager, is a member of the Scholarly Communications team.
The main OAK website contains news, a list of scheduled down times, help contacts for each of the schools, downloadable help sheets, and a FAQ section. Many questions can be answered by visiting the site.
