Faculty Proxies and Faculty Delivery Service

A faculty member may return the application to any campus library service desk to authorize a Faculty Proxy (surrogate) to check out library materials to the faculty member’s account. Library staff will configure the proxy borrower’s account in the Library Catalog to allow the proxy to check out materials directly to the faculty member, and will issue a Faculty Proxy card to the borrower.

Using the Faculty Proxy Card for ILL and Faculty Delivery Service

Faculty Delivery and Interlibrary Loan Service is available to Faculty Proxies who register with the ILL system. Vanderbilt Library materials requested in the proxy account will be checked out directly to the faculty member; interlibrary loan materials will be checked out to the proxy account in the ILL system.

To register your Proxy account with the ILL system, please complete the form at  The User ID should be constructed of “FP-“ plus the VUnet ID of the faculty member who sponsors the proxy. For example, for the account for Prof. William Shakespeare, whose VUnet ID is “shakesw2”, will be FP-shakesw2. Please include the names of both the faculty (primary) user and the proxy user in the order you prefer. Use any password that both users can share and will remember. The registration is only required once, and is effective as soon as submitted. Please feel free to call Interlibrary Loan (615-343-4222) or email ILL for help with registration.

Faculty Delivery Service is available for Arts & Science, Divinity, Engineering, Management, Music, and Peabody faculty. The Law School Library provides service to Law School faculty directly, and the Biomedical Library offers a separate document delivery service for Medical and Nursing School faculty.
