University Students
Engaging university students is central to the mission of the Fine Arts Gallery. For this reason, the Gallery is open daily during the academic year, and students are encouraged to drop in at any time. Interested in getting involved? Here are a few ways:
Student Group Visits
We welcome your student group to visit our exhibits and are happy to arrange for tours or extended opening hours. Student groups that have visited in the past have included the Undergraduate Student Government, various residence halls, and Greek organizations. Contact Gallery staff for more information.
Gallery Attendants
Gallery Attendants are hired on work study during the academic year and also during the summer. Attendants work the front desk greeting visitors and monitoring security. They also help with exhibition opening receptions and installation work. When positions become available, they are posted on www.hireadore.com.
Internships
The Fine Arts Gallery has two interns who volunteer four hours per week for the duration of the academic year and work on a variety of projects and research related to the exhibitions and permanent collection. Past projects have included collections digitization, label-writing, media and public relations work, and provenance research. Interns are asked to be present at exhibition openings to answer questions about the art and give tours. Applicants are asked to submit a resume and cover letter, writing sample, and two letters of recommendation in April of the academic year. Applicants are welcome from all departments but ideally will have a solid grounding in the history of art and an interest in careers in the art world.
Student Docents and Volunteers
Student docents lead tours of exhibitions for student and community groups.
Students interested in occasional volunteering with exhibition promotion and installation are encouraged to reach out to Gallery staff.
