About the Project
Historical and scientific evidence reveals that our brain changes in response to our environments, and this fellowship provided students the opportunity to chart a story of the brain using archival research -- exploring ideas of the brain at the intersection of literature, medicine, and neurology. Is the brain machine, architecture, circuit, localization, or environment? Fellows utilized Vanderbilt’s History of Medicine Collections to expand their research and put their findings into the perspective of what Kevis Goodman refers to as "pathologies of motion.” Fellows also charted the rich and deep story of the past and the present of the brain by using the stereographic brain model at the History of Medicine Collection to highlight the trajectory of the contemporary connections between the “ethical” brain, the “social” brain, the “righteous” brain, and the brain mapping for the brain’s ethical, intellectual and cultural consequences.
