About the Project
Using records, maps and photographs from the Vanderbilt Special Collections and other historic Nashville collections, the Buchanan Library Fellow created a Storymap project, an interactive, GIS-based visual tool that combines information on many individual locations into a single visual product, telling the exciting stories of Civil War Nashville. The project involved mapping one of the fortifications of Nashville. The mapped location was then matched with information from photos, stories, period maps, and articles. The fellow assisted with historical research and worked with faculty to compile and organize available photos, articles, and maps of important locations within Civil War Nashville. The fellow also helped to build their Storymap using ArcGIS software and converting data into file formats amenable to ArcGIS.
