Anton Koberger, Liber chronicarum, Nuremberg, Germany, 1493

One of the most famous fifteenth-century books, The Nuremberg Chronicle is an illustrated world history that was a "bestseller" in its time. Written in Latin by Hartmann Schedel, and published by Anton Koberger, the first edition appeared in 1493. Printed with cast-lead moveable type, including woodcut illustrations, provided by the shop where the young Albrecht Dürer worked, it is the first millionth volume of the library, donated by Jesse Ely Wills. The book can be viewed in Special Collections and University Archives.
