Mamie L. Speas

Biography/Scope and Content Note

This small collection is made up of a photocopy of one two-page letter dated April 21, 1969 from Mamie L. Speas to Morton B. Howell, Jr. concerning attendance at a Vanderbilt Reunion in 1969 of the Class of 1939. Enclosed with her letter are two of her poems "Symbols of Salem" and "Soldier Boy" ( 1945 ) part of her Trilogy of War Poems.

Mamie Spears graduated in 1920 from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She attended Vanderbilt for one year.
