William Nance Collection

Biography/History
William Nance was born April 3, 1835 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He joined the Army of the Confederacy in
April 1861, and the diary tells a day-by-day story of the war. William Nance was wounded at Perrryville, Kentucky on
October 8, 1862 and died October 25, 1862. The diary was returned to his parents.
Biographical information is included regarding his brother, Josiah W. Nance, who was born December 11, 1837 and
also joined the Army of the Confederacy in April 1861. He was killed on the Tennessee River June 10, 1864.
