In many ways, Brentwood Academy is the heir of the Duncan School. Chartered in 1969, BA held its first classes in 1970 at its campus on Granny White Pike in Brentwood. The school aims to educate students academically, spiritually and physically, and adopted the Duncan School motto “Vivat Veritas” (Let Truth Prevail).
Duncan School alumni also donated the money for BA’s Duncan Memorial Library, which houses a collection of Duncan School memorabilia. Duncan alumni provided for the 2002 renovation of the library. BA has welcomed both girls and boys since its founding, and now has almost 2,000 graduates. The school routinely sends graduates on to Vanderbilt, along with more than 30 other colleges and universities.
