Roy Crowdy Avery Collection

Biography/History
Roy Crowdy Avery was born in 1885 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He received an A.B. Degree from the University of Connecticut, a B.S. degree from the University of
Massachusetts, and a PhD. degree from Vanderbilt.
Roy Crowdy Avery became a Naturalized Citizen in 1917 and immediately joined the United States Army. He was later commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant, and served with the
Sanitary Corps from 1917-1919, spending time in France, Germany, and England. After the war he studied at Manchester University in Manchester, England.
Roy Crowdy Avery later was a Professor of Bacteriology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University from 1926-1953. He became Professor Emeritus in 1953.
Scope and Contents
This .21 linear feet collection contains four reel-to-reel tapes, a transcript of the tapes, transcript from a diary kept by Roy Crowdy Avery during World War I, newspaper
clippings, and a manuscript titled, "The Background on the Discovery of Histoplasmosis".
