**This machine’s cartridge should only be changed by a staff member. Glenn Waters is the contact person for this machine.

If copies have light streaks running through them, try darkening the intensity.  If the copies still have light streaks, the machine is probably low on toner.

To change a printer toner cartridge:

1.     Select the appropriate cartridge from the cartridge cabinet using the chart above.

2.     Remove the cartridge from its box and wrapper.

3.     Pull out the tab and strip on the end of the cartridge (if there is one) to activate it.

4.     Open the top of the printer.

5.     5P/6P printers (printer #2 on the fourth floor and the printer in the sixth-floor media room) have a small button on the right-hand side that unlatches the top.

6.     Rock the cartridge gently from side to side.  This keeps the toner from settling.

7.     Insert the cartridge.

8.     Close the top of the printer and let the printer reset.

9.     Place the used cartridge in the new cartridge box and mark it “USED”. These can be stored behind the reserve cabinet.

To change the Minolta microfilm toner cartridge (6th floor, far left):

1.     First, run a “drum-dry” cycle by using a pen or other pointed instrument to press the concealed button in the tiny hole on the control panel.  The machine may not yet be empty.  If the “out of toner” indicator light does not go out, add toner.

2.     Open the right-hand access door.  The visible end of the toner cartridge is near the lower left-hand corner.  Turn the tube to pull out and discard.

3.     Shake the new toner tube (BT6000P) thoroughly.

4.     Begin pulling off the plastic strip covering the tube.  Do not pull very far or there will be a toner spill.

5.     Carefully insert the tube, gradually pulling off the strip.

6.     When the tube is all the way in, turn it to dump the toner into the reservoir.

7.     Clean up any spilled toner and run another drum-dry cycle.

8.     Place the used cartridge in the new cartridge box and mark it “USED”. These can be stored behind the reserve cabinet.

Call Glenn Waters (beeper number 664-9022; dial 9 first to call off-campus) to get new toner for the Minolta and ScreenScan machines and have old cartridges removed.  Glenn can also be contacted for problems with the Minolta toner.
