Minolta Microfilm Photocopier

The Minolta Microfilm Photocopier differs from the other machines with the ability to print in that, instead of using an attached printer, it directly incorporates this hardware into the machine design.  This machine is located on the far left of the three machines facing out the window in the sixth floor Media Center.

Note: This machine overheats fairly often.  Unless this is the only open machine, please direct patrons to use other machines.  If a patron must use the Minolta machine, once-in-awhile they should turn the power off and let the machine rest for about ten minutes.  Of course, patrons may choose this machine on their own, so you should become familiar with its operation.  For information about the error codes used by this machine and what steps to take to fix them, refer to roman number XI in the section on “Microfilm/fiche Printing Tips and Troubleshooting”

Using the Minolta Microfilm Photocopier

  1. Remove the media from its box and dust wrapper or dust sleeve

2a. To print from microfilm, load the film onto the axle on the left of the film carrier.  The reel must clear the raised area at the axle’s base or film will not wind correctly onto the take-up reel.  On these machines, the loaded film should come down from the top of the reel.  (Note: Each type of machine has an illustration of properly loaded film.)

2b. To print from fiche, refer to the instructions titled “Using Microfiche Readers” for help in loading the media.

  1. Turn on the power switch located on the side of the machine.  Advance and rewind buttons located on the film carrier will scroll through the microfilm.  If using fiche, you will need to manually slide the carrier to find the desired place.

  1. Position the page to be copied within the lines marked on the screen.  Only the image within these lines will be copied.

  1. Make sure that the image is in good focus and legible on the screen.  Adjust zoom and focus using the controls located on the compound lens.  A knob on the lower right side of the screen will adjust the image’s orientation.

  1. Press the button labeled “Print” on the right side of the screen.

  1. The controls for intensity adjustment, etc. work like those on other machines, but are built into the machine as on a photocopier.

  1. When finished with microfilm, rewind the film onto its original reel, remove the reel, replace the dust wrapper, and return the reel to its box.  When finished with microfiche, return it to its dust sleeve.
