Getting Help

Any time you're doing research and you hit a stumbling block such as choosing the best database for your topic, creating an effective search strategy for various databases, or when you just aren't finding what you need... ask a librarian for help! Librarians can guide you through the research process or answer questions that you may have.

You can connect with a librarian several ways. Here are some choices:

  • Visit or call the reference desk of one of the Vanderbilt libraries during the hours the libraries are open.

  • For an individual appointment, call or email a librarian whose specialty is the subject you are exploring.

  • All questions and comments can be emailed through our Ask Us! reference service. These questions are answered as quickly as possible during normal business hours.

Subject Guides are also available that will provide tips on which databases and other resources to consider that match your research.
