American
Association of University Women Dissertation Fellowships
American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations
and scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave or for preparing
completed research for publication
American Council of Learned Societies
The American Council of Learned Societies is accepting applications for dissertation
and postdoctoral fellowships for work related to Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia,
or the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, in any discipline of the
humanities and the social sciences.
American Education
Research Association Dissertation Grants Program
AERA invites education policy- and practice-related dissertation proposals using
NCES, NSF, and other national data bases. Dissertation Grants are available
for advanced graduate students and are intended to support the student while
writing the dissertation. Awards for Dissertation Grants are up to $15,000 for
1-year projects.
The
Aspen Institute
The Fund supports doctoral dissertation research focussed on philanthropy and
the nonprofit sector.
Association for Institutional
Research
Dissertation fellowship proposals are solicited from doctoral students beginning
their dissertation work. One year of fellowship support is available to assist
the student in the acquisition, analysis, and reporting of data from the NCES
and NSF data sets to conduct research on postsecondary education.
Charlotte Newcombe
Dissertation Fellowships
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to
encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all
fields of the humanities and social sciences. In addition to topics in religious
studies or in ethics (philosophical or religious), dissertations might consider
the ethical implications of foreign policy, the values influencing political
decisions, the moral codes of other cultures, and religious or ethical issues
reflected in history or literature. Winners will receive $17,500 for 12 months
of full-time dissertation writing.
Commission
on Independent Colleges and Universities
The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities is accepting applications
for a fellowship for research on higher-education policy by a scholar in any
discipline. The six-month fellowship will take place at the commission's office,
in Albany, N.Y. Preference will be given to candidates who have doctorates or
who have completed all but their dissertations and have a proven record of communicating
research findings to a general audience.
Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships

Ford
Foundation International Fellowships Program
For graduate-level study leading to a masters or doctoral degree for individuals
from countries and territories in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America,
and Russia.
Foundation for Community Association Research
The Research Foundation grants an annual Fellowship to graduate students working
on topics related to community associations. Students of all disciplines are
welcome to apply. Projects may address a variety of topics within the field
of community associations and common-interest communities, such as management,
institutions, organization and administration, public policy, architecture,
as well as political, economic, social, and intellectual trends in community
association housing. Projects may focus on either applied or theoretical research.
Housing and
Urban Development
Through its Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant Program, the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is empowering a new generation of urban
scholars to develop and conduct applied research in the fields of housing
and community development. This program, administered by HUD's Office of University
Partnerships: Supports research and writing of doctoral dissertations on policy-relevant
topics. Offers new scholars a forum for sharing their research findings. Focuses
attention on research that offers insight into the very real problems facing
our communities.
International Reading
Association
In keeping with its desire to support scholarship and research in the field
of reading, the International Reading Association offers awards to assist and
encourage doctoral candidates at different stages of their dissertation reseach.
IREX FSA Contemporary Issues
Fellowships
IREX programs address the needs of U.S. researchers throughout their careers
by providing opportunities for master's, predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior
scholars. IREX offers a range of professional, scholarly research, and small
grant opportunities for international individuals.
Kennan
Institute Grants
The Kennan Institute was established in 1974 as a component program of the
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The institute encourages
studies of the cultures and societies of Central Eurasia and seeks to function
as a forum where the scholarly community can interact with public policymakers.
The Kennan Institute offers short-term grants to scholars who demonstrate
a particular need to use the library, archival, and other specialized resources
in the Washington, DC, area. Academic participants must either possess a doctoral
degree or be doctoral candidates who have nearly completed their dissertations.
The Morris
K. Udall Foundation Environmental Public Policy and Environmental Conflict
Resolution Dissertation Fellowships
Each year the Foundation awards two Ph.D. dissertation fellowships to students
whose work is in the areas of environmental public policy or environmental
conflict resolution. Recipients must be in the final, writing year of their
Ph.D. work and must submit a copy of their dissertation to the Udall Foundation
at the end of the award year.
Spencer
Foundation
These fellowships support individuals whose dissertations show potential for
bringing fresh and constructive perspectives to the history, theory, or practice
of formal or informal education anywhere in the world. Funding Priorities.
Candidates should be interested in pursuing further research in education
once the doctorate is attained.
TOEFL
Small Grants for Doctoral Research in Second or Foreign Language Assessment
The purpose of this program is to make available small awards to promising
students working in the area of foreign/second language assessment. Graduate
students registered in doctoral programs within or outside the U.S. leading
to a degree with a specialization in second or foreign language assessment
who have completed all course and examination requirements for the degree
are eligible to apply.
United
States Institute of Peace, Peace Scholar Dissertation Fellowships
Peace Scholars are outstanding doctoral students, from anywhere in the world,
who are enrolled in American universities and conducting dissertation research
on international peace and conflict management. Peace Scholars are based at
their universities or in appropriate field research sites.
