The Library's Outdoor Terrace is being enjoyed by students and staff who meet there at lunch or plug in their laptops to work. The garden is in full bloom; people walk through smiling because it is so pleasant!

We are waiting for shelving, carpeting, and furniture for the third floor. Room 302 is being renamed the "Curriculum Design Studio." Attractive, functional countertops, storage space, equipment, and construction paper will be used by students who need to create materials for their student teaching experience.

The library and its inviting first floor "Fireplace Reading Room" were the venue for a group of librarians who visited during the national meeting of the Special Libraries Association this month.

April 22, 2004

Staff offices on the third floor have been painted. Rooms 305, 306, and 307 have been painted and cleaned. The Curriculum Materials will be moved to Room 306 and the furniture in Room 303 will be moved to Room 307 tomorrow. Work will then begin on Rooms 302, 303, and 304.

A beautiful green tile floor was installed in the first floor cafe and restroom area.

Redbud and maple trees, liriope, and shrubs were planted in the sculpture garden.

Carpeting is being installed on the first floor. The hallway ceiling is in place. The terrace pavers are in place. Picnic tables are scheduled to arrive this week.

The "faux" fireplace has a beautiful wood mantel. The hearth was tiled using the marble floor from the foyer. Electrical, plumbing, and heating work continue. The terrace now has a concrete foundation and sidewalk. The building exterior that faces Magnolia Drive is being washed and the bricks pointed. The "Library" sign above the door has been removed for restoration. Work on the third floor will begin next week.

February 12, 2004
The area outside of the Magnolia Drive doors to the library has been cleared of vegetation. The sidewalk and paved drive have been removed. Drywall, electrical outlets, and data ports are being installed throughout the first floor.

February 2, 2004
The photocopiers that are located on the first floor are temporarily unavailable. There are copiers on the main floor and in the stacks that can be used. The first floor restrooms have been demolished; the only restroom in the library is on the third floor. Patrons can also use restrooms in Payne Hall or the MRL building. The former Periodicals Reading Room is empty.

January 22, 2004
The refurbishing of the first floor and outdoor terrace of Peabody Library began on Thursday, January 22. This project will involve painting, new furniture and carpeting, and the installation of a small cafe on the first floor. The outdoor terrace will extend from the library beyond the current parking spaces on the circle; these parking places will no longer exist. We expect the project to be completed by the early summer.
