Fines

Overdue fines for regular items are $.20 per day. Loan Periods vary depending upon your position at Vanderbilt. The Peabody Library has a grace period for fines of 7 days. However, if an item is returned after the grace period, the fine will accrue from the actual day the item was overdue, making the minimum fine for an item $1.60.

Government documents: $0.30/day
Reserves: $1.20 per hour. There is a one-hour grace period for reserves.

Faculty members are exempt from overdue fines.

Recalls / Holds

If a book that is charged is needed by another user, a RECALL may be placed. At that time a recall notice will be sent to the borrowing user, indicating that the user has 7 days to return the item. Users are responsible for returning these items to the Peabody Library service desk by the due date on the notice. Recall fines are $1.00 per day. There is not a grace period for recall fines. When an item on HOLD arrives back in the library, a message will appear in the user's record, indicating that the "HOLD" is now available.

All patrons are responsible for paying recall fines.

Lost / Unreturned Books

The fees charged to users for lost books is determined by the following formula: cost of book + cataloging fee ($35) + billing fee ($15). If the book is returned after the bill is generated, the cost of the book and the cataloging fee will be forgiven; however, the patron is still responsible for the billing fee for the book.

Charges for students will be transferred to Student Accounts if not paid by the 15th of the month following the one the bill was received. For other patrons, privileges are automatically suspended if amount owed is more than $25.00.
