Electronic Journal FAQs

1.  Are all of the libraries' journals available electronically?
2.  Does electronic access to journals save money?
3.  Are electronic journals rented or owned?
4. I accessed an electronic journal yesterday, but today I am not able to access the same title.  Why?

1.  Are all of the library's journals available electronically?

No, electronic access is dependent upon the publisher and the library's budget. Some publishers do not provide electronic access to their journals. And some publishers do not include electronic access with the cost of a print subscription. The library's budget does not always allow for the purchase of the electronic subscription.

3.  Are electronic journals rented or owned?

The cost of the electronic version of a journal may be less expensive in some cases, but keep in mind that electronic subscriptions do not always guarantee perpetual access. In some cases perpetual access to electronic backfiles is included in our license. In other cases, when an electronic subscription is canceled, electronic access ends no matter how long a library has subscribed to the title. When the print version of a journal is purchased, it remains the property of the library.

4.  I accessed an electronic journal yesterday, but today I am not able to access the same title.  Why?

We do our best to maintain an accurate listing of electronic journal holdings.  However, access may change at any time due to technical problems or modifications of publisher or vendor licenses. If you notice a disruption in access to an electronic journal, please report it here:
