How Do I borrow materials from non-Vanderbilt libraries?

NOTE: Before submitting an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request, please be sure to check ACORN, the library catalog, to make sure we don't already have the item.

Regardless of where you find a citation for an item, most items not held at Vanderbilt are available through our Interlibrary Loan service. This service is only for current Vanderbilt faculty, students and staff. You may make requests by using the online ILL request forms.

Additionally, a number of databases have ILL request links directly on the search result screen, although sometimes it's necessary to click on the title of the record to see the ILL link.

The following library catalogs also have links to ILL request forms:

• Athena is the virtual library catalog of the Nashville Area Library Alliance. Materials from these participating libraries can be obtained within a week.

• KUDZU is the catalog which searches the libraries of numerous southeastern universities and the Center for Research Libraries. Items from UT-Knoxville and the University of Kentucky are delivered in 3-5 days. Most of the other institutions also have expedited delivery services.

• WorldCat contains millions of records describing items owned by U.S. libraries and libraries around the world. Normal delivery service is 10 days to 2 weeks.

If an item located at Vanderbilt is checked out, it is possible to request the item by using the KUDZU button located at the bottom of the Acorn record.
