Search Full-text Electronic Journal Collections

The following databases are collections of full-text electronic journals. In most cases the ejournal collections may be searched individually or collectively. Access is limited to Vanderbilt users only. Please check the Heard Library list of ejournals for a comprehensive alphabetical list of the ejournals available to the Vanderbilt community. Note that Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff using an outside Internet service provider from off campus may be prompted for their VUnet IDs and password.

  • Business and Company ASAP (Infotrac via the Tennessee Electronic Library)
    Use this database to research all business and management topics. Includes directory listings for over 150,000 companies as well as information on Finance, Trade, New Technologies, Trends and more. Coverage is from 1980-current.

  • Cambridge University Press Journals Online
    Access to full-text of journals for which Vanderbilt has a subscription to the print version.

  • Contemporary Women's Issues
    Provides full-text access to global information on women, including journals, newsletters, and research reports from non-profit groups and government and international agencies.  The source material covers women in over 190 countries and is pertinent to sociology, psychology, health, peabody, business administration, political science, and other disciplines.   • ECO (Electronic Collections Online)
     This is an index to electronic journals.  You may search the entire ECO database (note that you will see links to fulltext only for those journals to which Vanderbilt subscribes) or you may browse the Vanderbilt subscriptions and go directly to fulltext articles.

  • Education Abstracts FTX
    Indexes articles from over 400 English-language periodicals, yearbooks, series and supplements. Subject coverage includes: preschool, elementary, secondary, and higher peabody; special and vocational education; teacher education; and special issues. Fulltext coverage is from 1996.   • Emerald: the Full Text Management Research Database
    Emerald Fulltext contains the full text of journal articles published from 1994 to date, in both HTML and PDF format, from over 100 journals, published by the MCB University Press. In addition abstracts are also provided for articles back to 1989. This makes a growing library of over 35,000 articles, updated on a weekly basis in advance of the printed journal.

  • Ethnic Newswatch
    This is a database featuring fulltext of newspapers, magazines and journals published for ethnic, minority and native communities in the United States. These sources cover local, national and global news. Coverage dates: varies by title, but is usually from the early to mid 1990s through the present.

  • Expanded Academic ASAP (Infotrac via the Tennessee Electronic Library)
    From arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all academic disciplines. Access scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers - with full text and images! Coverage is from 1980-current.

    IEL provides 15 simultaneous users Web access to all IEEE and IEE journals, conference proceedings and standards from 1988 to the present.

  • JSTOR
    JSTOR, an electronic journal storage project, is a developing effort to build a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature. It currently includes fulltext of journals in the areas of ecology, economics, finance, history, mathematics, political science, and population studies. JSTOR is a work in progress, and will continue to expand its coverage. Areas planned to be added next are Asian studies, philosophy, sociology and the sciences.
    Coverage dates: varies by title; usually from the first volume through the late 1980s or early 1990s.

  • Kluwer Journals Online
    Kluwer Academuic Publishers recently merged with Springer Verlag. The SpringerLink ejournals platform now links to more than 1,250 journals, including all former Kluwer Academic journals. You may browse or search the content from the SpringerLink homepage.

  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
    This is a powerful research tool featuring a rich variety of full text sources. It provides up-to-date information on current events, business, law, and medicine. It includes regional, national, and international newspapers; magazines; wire services; business publications (trade journals, corporate annual reports, tax sources); legal resources (law reviews, court cases, briefs, federal and state codes); government documents; medical information (medical journals); and reference sources (directories, biographical information).

  • Link from Springer Verlag
    LINK contains over 400 fulltext journals and books published by Springer-Verlag and other publishers. You may browse the entire list of journals and select individual titles or search the entire database. You can also browse by Online Libraries in the life sciences, chemical sciences, geosciences, computer science, mathematics, medicine, physics & astronomy, engineering, environmental sciences, and economics.

  • Making of America
    Making of America (MOA) is a digital library of primary sources in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. The collection is particularly strong in the subject areas of education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology. This site provides access to 267 monograph volumes and over 100,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints. The project represents a major collaborative endeavor in preservation and electronic access to historical texts.

  • Oxford University Press Journals
    OUP currently publishes over 150 journals, covering a wide range of academic disciplines. Vanderbilt has fulltext access only to those OUP titles to which we have a print subscription.

  • Project MUSE
    This collection includes complete full text coverage of over 40 journals published by the Johns Hopkins University Press. You may search the entire MUSE database by full text, article, author, or keyword, either in a single journal, among specific journals, or across all journals. The database supports Boolean searches. You may also browse individual journal tables of contents and select articles. Coverage dates: varies by title; usually from 1996 to the present.

  • ProQuest
    This database and ejournal collection provides abstracts and full text of articles in hundreds of popular periodicals and scholarly journals. It includes articles indexed in Periodical Abstracts (Research II edition), Newspaper Abstracts (National edition), and ABI/Inform (Global edition). It covers a wide range of subjects, including the arts, business, commentary, computers, consumer issues, current events, education, health, lifestyles, literary reviews, politics, and science. Coverage dates: approx. 1986 to present.

  • Royal Society of Chemistry
    Access to full-text of journals for which Vanderbilt also has a subscription to the print version.

  • ScienceDirect (as of 1/1/03 includes all Academic Press IDEAL electronic journals)
    Contains the full text of more than 1,700 electronic journals in the life, physical, medical, technical, and social sciences.  You may browse the entire list of journals and select individual titles or search the entire fulltext database.
    Coverage dates: generally 1996 to present, although backfile content has been licensed for some subjects.

  • Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)
    SIAM has a comprehensive publishing program in applied and computational mathematics. In addition to SIAM News, SIAM Review, and Theory of Probability and Its Applications, SIAM publishes nine peer-reviewed research journals.

  • Springer LINK
    Contains the full text of more than 485 Springer-Verlag journals in the life, physical, medical and engineering sciences as well as 9 book series. One may browse the entire list of journals alphabetically or by subject in the LINK online libraries. One may also search the entire LINK collection. Fulltext coverage varies but dates are generally 1996 to present.
