A basic introduction to Geographic Information Systems that explains what they are, how they work, and what they can do.

 


Making Great Maps

 

An introduction to cartography that explains the basics of making a 'good' map. This presentation includes things like what elements to place on your map, choosing colors, using contrast and white space, and more.



Finding and using Census information

 

This presentation details the use of census information including helping the student understand the terminology and geography used by the US Census Bureau.




GIS in the Vanderbilt Library

 

An breif introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and examples of a few of the many ways they're being used on campus. This presentation was given to Library staff members who were interested, but not neccessarily experienced in GIS.
