GIS Data Now Available Campus-Wide |

ESRI Data & Maps 9.3 including ‘Data & Maps and Streetmap North America’ and ‘Global Imagery and Shaded Relief, North and South America’ are now available at \\vuesri\arcimage. Users can add layers from the server directly to a map project, or export any of the data to shapefile or feature class. The shared drive is mapped as Y: in the Garland and Stevenson labs and we plan to expand its availability in the near future. Click here to learn how to map your machine to this drive.

Many of you know that 9.3 was released earlier this summer. I’m happy to announce that it is now in full effect on campus. This means it is available in the Peabody Learning Commons, the Garland and Stevenson Computer labs, the Science and Engineering Library Map room, and the Spatial Analysis Research Lab as well as several discipline-specific labs. Student versions of 9.3 are also available

The Science and Engineering library now circulates a Garmin GPS Map 76 CSx unit. This is the same model that is available in the Peabody Library and has proven to be a great unit. Stop by and check it out today!
Spatial Analyst Research Lab, now open |

The Anthropology department is pleased to announce the opening of the Spatial Analysis Research Lab (SARL) located in Garland Hall, Room 10. SARL is an advanced Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) facility intended for faculty, research staff, and graduate students who are experienced GIS/RS users, with the purpose of providing high-powered workstations and mass-storage systems for analyzing large datasets and executing computationally-intensive geospatial procedures.

Global Positioning System Unit available for checkout |

The library has purchaced a Garmin GPSMap handheld GPS unit which is now available for checkout from the Peabody Library. The unit is user friendly and great for hikes, GPS games, and a wide variety of research and data collection purposes. Check the GPS page for more info.
ArcView in Peabody Library Learning Commons and Arts & Sciences Microcomputer Labs

ArcView (including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox with extensions) has been installed on the machines in the Peabody Library, room 304. There are 18 workstations and one instructor station with projection, making the Learning Commons the perfect place for classroom GIS instruction. Email Jacob to reserve the room for your class. ArcView has also been installed on 2 machines in the Science and Engineering Library Map room, and upgraded to version 9.2 in the Stevenson Computer Classroom and the Garland Hall Lab.
