Geocoding entails taking street addresses and locating their X (longitude) and Y (latitude) coordinates. From there the points can be displayed on a map. This particular site maps locations on Yahoo Maps instantly and is capable of producing data that is compatible with Google Earth and ArcMap.

Google Earth

Google Earth is a virtual globe software with pan, zoom, and search functionality as well as the ability to get directions and import data of your own through kml files. The software includes Aerial imagery, topography, administrative boundaries, streets, and a wide variety of points of interest.
Quantum GIS (QGIS)
Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. It supports vector, raster, and database formats. QGIS is downloadable software that is licensed under the GNU General Public License. QGIS lets you browse and create map data on your computer; it supports many common spatial data formats (e.g. ESRI ShapeFile, geotiff) and supports plugins to do things like display tracks from your GPS.
