- HLM (Hierarchical Linear Modeling)
The HLM program allows for study the relationships between levels in data that has a hierarchical structure (ex. students, schools, school districts). A free "student version" is available for downloading.
- PSPP
"PSPP is a program for statistical analysis of sampled data. It is a Free replacement for the proprietary program SPSS ... PSPP can perform descriptive statistics, T-tests, linear regression and non-parametric tests. Its backend is designed to perform its analyses as fast as possible, regardless of the size of the input data. You can use PSPP with its graphical interface or the more traditional syntax commands. "
- The R Project for Statistical Analysis
"R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms, Windows and MacOS."

- SDA Archive (Berkeley)
"A set of programs for the documentation and Web-based analysis of survey data. There are also procedures for creating customized subsets of datasets." The archive includes several datasets, including the General Social Survey and the American National Election Study.

A system for distributing statistical software, datasets, and information by electronic mail, FTP and WWW. Contains a software archive.
- StatTransfer
A software program for transferring spreadsheets and statistical software from one package to another. A trial copy is available from the website.
Vanderbilt's Instructional Technology Services (ITS) department offers SAS, SPSS, STATA, and StatTransfer at discounted prices for Vanderbilt faculty, staff, and students through its Software Store.
