Finding The Information You Need

The Internet has thousands of sources to help you "fill in the blanks" in gathering bibliographical information like author names, ISBN numbers, etc. Here are just a few.

Heard Library Research Databases: Vanderbilt's own Jean & Alexander Heard Library Research Database has a wealth of information.

The Library of Congress: You can search for book & journal information with their easy-to-use interface.

Google: A fast & reliable multi-site search engine.

Ulrich's: This service from Bowker has an extensive database of periodical information..

Harvard Business School Publishing: Harvard cases, as well as other cases, may be researched, viewed & ordered at this web site.

Ingenta: This successor to the popular Uncover is a valuable tool for researching journals. You can even order copies of articles through this service.
Understanding Copyright Law

In this digital age, now more than ever, we need to be aware of intellectual property rights. The use of copyrighted materials in an educational setting should be carefully considered. Here's some help:

Copyright Clearance Center: Vanderbilt obtains the majority of their copyright permissions from this not-for-profit organization, originally mandated by an act of Congress. Their overview of Copyright Law is practical and comprehensive.

University of Texas: A thorough examination Copyright from a university point-of-view.

  U. S. Copyright Law: The ultimate source for Copyright Law, if you don't mind reading legal jargon.

Stanford University Library: Stanford University's Copyright page is another valuable resource for copyright law information.

Cornell University: As comprehensive a resource for Copyright information as you're likely to find.
