Central Library Locker Policy

I. Acquiring or Renewing a Locker

Locker assignments are made at the Information Desk. A $5.00 key deposit is required when your locker is assigned. When you give up your locker and return the key to the Information Desk, the library will refund your deposit. If the library issues a second or replacement key, there is an additional $5.00 deposit. The library will refund $5.00 per key returned.

Lockers can be assigned at any time during the academic year. All locker assignments expire at the end of the spring semester, but can be renewed. As the expiration date approaches, an email reminder will be sent to you and renewal reminders will be posted by the main elevators. You may renew by replying to the email or by filling out a renewal form at the Information Desk.

All personal items found in un-renewed lockers will be removed at the end of the assignment period. The library will keep these items for two weeks only. After two weeks, the library will discard any unclaimed personal items removed from un-renewed lockers.

II. Locker Regulations

Under no circumstances should periodicals, reference materials, government documents, microform media materials or uncharged books be kept in lockers. Library staff checks lockers periodically; failure to comply with this or other locker regulations may result in loss of both locker privileges and key deposit.

The staff will remove any extremely overdue charged books found in lockers.

Food is not allowed in the library and may not be kept in a locker. Staff will remove and discard any food found in a locker.

Padlocks or personal locks of any type are not permitted on lockers. Staff will remove any such locks.

Please help us prolong the life of Vanderbilt library material. Seemingly harmless acts can have a cumulative detrimental effect on the long-term life of books. Please refrain from bending down corners or using inappropriate bookmarks such as post it notes, paperclips, pencils or other large objects in library materials.

The library is not responsible for personal items placed in lockers.
