Software and Equipment for Visually Impaired Library Users

The Central Library has adaptive workstations available for the visually impaired. One is located in the Reference Room and the other one is located in the group of workstations adjacent to the Circulation Desk. The workstations are equipped with headphones and are labeled ADAPTIVE WORKSTATIONS. They provide access to the following software under the START --> All Programs menu:

JAWS software is a speech synthesizer. It allows information from the screen to be read aloud.

ZoomText is software designed to assist vision-impaired computer users by enlarging (2X to 16X) everything on the screen.

There is also a ClearView magnifier and monitor in the Payne Reading Room (Room 612) that provides magnification of printed text.
