Abstract
Collection contains biographical materials, copies of research papers and presentations, nutrition education presentations. Also included are materials representing her work in professional societies and in consulting relationships with government and industry, as well as some photographs of Feldman and colleagues. Boxes three and four of this collection contain materials developed by Dr. Feldman related to Virgil Preston Sydenstricker (1889-1964), who held the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia from 1922 until 1957. Sydenstricker was recognized for his work on pellagra. Of special interest are the photographs that he had of human starvation in a Nazi concentration camp after WWII.

Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Elaine B. Feldman (1926- ) is a physician, scientist and educator. She has held professional positions at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City (1951-1954), the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center (1957-1972), and the Medical College of Georgia (1972-1992). She has earned an outstanding reputation for research in lipid absorption and metabolism, as well as for nutrition education, especially for clinicians. Her outstanding career as a physician researcher and physician educator came at a time when very few women were active in these fields, and in this regard she served as a pioneer and example for the women who followed her.
