Historical or Biographical Note

Charles Kimbrough Winston was one of the founders of the Medical Department of the University of Nashville. Born in Green County, Kentucky, July 8, 1811, he first served as Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy from 1850 until 1869 and then as Professor of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women from 1869 to 1873. He was elected as president of the faculty and served in that role for 23 years before his retirement. He died in Nashville, March 29, 1882.
