Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Francis Huntington Swett, anatomist was born November 13, 1893 in Norway, Maine. He received his A.B. from Bates College in 1916, his M.A. from Brown University in 1917, and his PhD from Yale University in 1922. He was Instructor and Associate in Anatomy at Johns Hopkins University from 1922 to 1925. In 1925 he came to Vanderbilt as an Associate Professor of Medicine until 1930 when he left to become Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anatomy Duke University School of Medicine. He remained there until his untimely death from heart disease on February 10, 1943.
