Historical or Biographical Note

Louis Rosenfeld, M.D., graduated from Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. A Vanderbilt Clinical Professor of Surgery, Emeritus, Rosenfeld was a member of the armed forces surgical staff during World War II and served in North Africa and Italy. He received the Bronze Star Medal and was discharged with the rank of Major. He practiced head and neck surgery for 46 years on the Vanderbilt faculty, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, and at the old Nashville General Hospital. Rosenfeld authored Memoirs of a Surgical House Officer and  The Fighting 300th, and was co-author of  History of Surgery at Vanderbilt University. He passed away in 1999.
