Historical or Biographical Note

Charles Summers Robinson, Ph.D., earned his A.B. in 1907, his M.S. in 1909, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1917. He then served in various research capacities at the University of Michigan from 1906-1926. He left Michigan to work as an associate at the Rockefeller Institute as well as director of the Chemical Division of the Michigan Experimental Station (1926-1931). Robinson was then appointed professor of biochemistry at Vanderbilt University in 1931, a position he held until 1973 upon earning the title of professor emeritus.
