Historical or Biographical Note

Charles Chandler Randall graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in World War II from 1941 to 1945. After leaving the army as a Major, Randall completed his residency training in pathology and joined the faculty at VUSM and served as acting head of the Department of Microbiology from 1955 to 1957.

Randall left Vanderbilt in 1956 to assume new duties as chair of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, an appointment he held until 1978. A highly respected authority on herpes and pox viruses, Randall retired as professor emeritus of microbiology.
