Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. J.M. Oliver was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and graduated from Vanderbilt in 1911. After serving an internship at Vanderbilt, he was appointed Superintendent of Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital, serving from 1913-1916. Oliver maintained a medical practice in Portland, Tennessee, and he was the first physician to be elected president of the Sumner County Medical Association.
