Historical or Biographical Note

Bailey Franklin Moore was born in Haywood County, Tennessee, in 1911. He graduated from George Peabody College and attended additional coursework at Vanderbilt University. Bailey's career began in 1931 and then full time in 1935 as a stationary engineer. He fought in World War II and returned to Vanderbilt as an equipment and instruments designer for Vanderbilt Hospital Medical School and other departments. In 1961 an article in the Tennessean noted that Bailey Moore was the "gadget maker." Former chair of the Department of Physiology, Dr. Charles Park, said, "It is always a pleasure to receieve a Bailey Moore item--a work combining science and art.
