Historical or Biographical Note

Virgil S. Lequire entered Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1943, beginning a relationship that would span nearly five decades. After receiving his M.D. in 1946, LeQuire served an internship in Rochester and worked two years at the United States Naval Medical Research Institute. He then returned to Vanderbilt as a Fellow in Neurophysiology. LeQuire was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy in 1950 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1959. In 1966 he became Professor of Anatomy and Pathology. LeQuire was named Professor Emeritus in 1991 upon his retirement.
