Historical or Biographical Note

Augustus Kuhlman received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Chicago. In 1936, Kuhlman was appointed director of the Nashville Joint University Libraries, with the rank of full professor at Vanderbilt University and George Peabody College. Within this capacity, Kuhlman helped devise a plan for organizing the library resources of Vanderbilt, Scarritt College, and Peabody College as a cooperative venture.
