Historical or Biographical Note

Edgar Jones received his B.A. in 1926 and M.D. in 1929, both from Vanderbilt University. After interning at Lakeside Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, Jones served as a medical school instructor and advanced medical research student at University of Rochester Medical School. He returned to Nashville in 1935 to join the faculty of Vanderbilt's School of Medicine. At the time of his death in 1952, Jones was Associate Professor of Medicine. Jones received a number of awards for his work with synthetic vitamins in the treatment of nutritional diseases.
