Historical or Biographical Note

Chester Morse Jones, M.D., was an internationally famed gastroenterologist. He had served as president of three prestigious national medical associations during his lifetime: the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Clinical and Climatological Association, and the American College of Physicians. Before his death, Jones had been actively involved in patient care, research, and teaching in his medical specialty at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston since 1921. He also served on the Vanderbilt faculty from 1943 to 1944 as a Visiting Professor.
