Historical or Biographical Note

Othel Jefferson Gee, M.D., graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1915. A First Lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps, Gee received the Distinguished Service Cross in 1918 for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 20th Field Artillery (Attached), 5th Division, A.E.F., near Vieville-en-Haye, France, 27 September 1918. Lieutenant Gee voluntarily ran to the assistance of a wounded soldier, dressed his wounds, and carried him to shelter through severe shell fire.
