Historical or Biographical Note

William W. Frye, M.D., Ph.D., is a graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (1939). He received his Ph.D. in Zoology from Iowa State College in 1931. He later became an instructor and associate professor of medicine at Vanderbilt and in 1945 became a full professor. Frye was then named head of the VUSM's Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and served in that capacity from 1945 to 1948.
