Historical or Biographical Note

Frank R. Freemon served on the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine faculty from 1972 to 2000, rising to Professor of Psychiatry and Professor of Neurology. He has also served as Chief Neurologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville. Freemon also has a law degree, a master's degree in theology from Vanderbilt, and a Ph.D. in history. In his retirement, Dr. Freemon has been teaching an elective class on the History of Medicine to Vanderbilt Medical students. He has also published several books on Civil War Medicine.
