Historical or Biographical Note

Joseph H. Fishbein received his A.B. (1940) and M.D. (1950) degrees from Temple University and his training in psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Vanderbilt staff as Assistant Professor Psychiatry and also worked as acting chief of Psychiatry Service at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Nashville. In 1972, Fishbein was named recipient of the annual Shovel Award, given by fourth-year Vanderbilt medical students to the faculty member recognized as best lecturer/educator of the year.
