Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. W. Andrew Dale was born in Columbia, Tennessee, in 1920. He received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1944 and completed his surgical training at the University of Rochester following a tour in the U.S. Air Force between 1946-1948. Dale held a surgical practice in Nashville and co-established one of the first fellowship programs in vascular surgery in the country. He became an internationally prominent figure in the field of vascular surgery.Dr.Andrew Dale passed away in 1990. His family, former vascular fellows and friends established the W. Andrew Dale Memorial Lectureship in Vascular Surgery at Vanderbilt in his honor.
