Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Marvin McTyeire Cullom graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1896. Dr. Cullom served his internship with Dr. Richard Douglas and afterward he went to New York where he served a three-year internship at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital. During his medical career, he made 12 trips to Europe to study in the hospitals of Paris, London, Berlin, and Vienna.

Dr. Cullom established a large practice in Nashville and partnered with Dr. George Weeks Hale. Dr. Cullom served as President of the Nashville Academy of Medicine and was very active in other national and local medical groups. He was a loyal supporter of Vanderbilt University, serving for many years as a member of the Vanderbilt Board of Trust.
