Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Benjamin Franklin Byrd graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1916. He was President of his Medical School class, a member of Chi Zeta Chi Fraternity, and an outstanding student. After his graduation he taught Physiology at Vanderbilt Medical School from 1916-1920. He became Assistant Medical Director of the National Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1919. Dr. Byrd was the founder of the Middle Tennessee Heart Association and served as the first chairman of its board of directors in 1949 and as president in 1950.
