Historical or Biographical Note

Hugh Wagner Stallworth, Nashville and civic business leader and philanthropist along with his wife Anita Bevill McMichael Stallworth made a gift of two million dollars in 1967 to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the establishment of a rehabilitation facility. The Hugh and Anita Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital was made possible in part through this bequest. He was born in born in Wayne County, Mississippi on August 26, 1882 and was raised in Meridian, MS. He graduated from Mississippi State University, and was an executive with the Ralston Purina Company and was a manager of the Nashville plant before his retirement in 1944. He died March 19, 1968.
