Historical or Biographical Note

Marsha Casey was promoted to executive director and chief executive officer of Vanderbilt University Hospital in 1998. She had been senior vice president and chief operating officer of the hospital since her arrival at VUMC in the fall of 1996. Casey received her M.A. in Allied Health degree from the University of Texas in 1986.

Casey played a major role in several important hospital endeavors, such as the institution's reorganization into patient care centers and the development of business planning focused on cost, quality and market share. She left Vanderbilt in 1999 to become president of St. Vincent's Health System in Indianapolis.
