Historical or Biographical Note

George R. Guilford earned his B.A. at the University of Colorado (1940), his M.S. at Wayne State University (1942), and his Ph.D. at the University of Utah (1948). He served as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt and Principal Scientist at the Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital from 1949-1957. After a brief stint at the University of Maryland, Guilford returned to Nashville, serving as Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Director of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory from 1960-1967.
