Historical or Biographical Note

Luther Christman, Ph.D., received a diploma from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing for Men in 1939, his B.S. degree (1948) and Ed.M. degree (1952 from Temple University, and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1965. Amidst a rather illustrious career, Christman worked at Vanderbilt from 1967-1972 serving as Professor of Nursing, Dean of the School of Nursing, Professor of Sociology, and Director of Nursing at Vanderbilt University Hospital. In addition, he has been the subject of two dissertations for his contributions in nursing.
